The World Food Programme (WFP) Innovation challenge is offering up to €100K in equity-free funding to game-changing solutions that can support the transition to sustainable food systems.
Transforming food systems is one of the most powerful ways to change course and realise the vision of the #SDG2030 agenda.
“This year’s campaign challenges us to innovatively rethink our food systems,” the WFP Innovation call says. “We are looking for disruptive innovations for fighting hunger in areas such as resilience to shocks and stress; access to safe and nutritious food; and advancing equitable livelihoods for all.”
Broken food systems are responsible for one in 10 of the global population going hungry and one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions. Meaning all hopes of ending hunger and tackling the climate crisis hang on efforts to transform food systems. Which last month’s historic UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) in New York, heralded as a new dawn for the future of food, was all about catalysing. Labelled as the the launch of a ‘global movement on food system transformation’, the summit saw countries commit to a raft of new actions as part of their national pathways for achieving food systems transformation.
The food revolution everyone is working to deliver will be driven by innovation – and the WFP Innovation Challenge is searching for solutions with the potential to accelerate it.
