This is the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and creatives are being called on to make a big splash by inspiring people to forge a deep and meaningful relationship with the ocean.

Leading the call is the European Marine Board, which is currently on the hunt for two new artists for its ‘EMBracing the Ocean’ artist-in-residence programme.

“The EMBracing the Ocean programme provides grants of €10,000 for creative individuals and groups to co-create artwork in collaboration with Ocean scientists to expand societies’ understanding of the Ocean’s value and inspire wide reaching societal change for Ocean sustainability,” the Board’s website says.

Applications are welcome from around the world, with the programme open to creative people and groups engaged in a variety of disciplines, including: visual arts; literary arts; performing arts; traditional and indigenous arts.

The deadline for applications is 20 February 2023 – find out more.
